Holly M. Holmes, MD, MS, AGSF is a board-certified and fellowship-trained geriatric medicine specialist focusing on the care and treatment of older adults, age 65 and older. Dr. Holly Holmes joined Medical Clinic of Houston, LLP November 2025 to provide comprehensive care to senior adults in Houston, TX. Dr. Holmes completed a BS in Pharmacy at the University of Texas, Austin and was a registered pharmacist. She received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). Dr. Holmes completed an internal medicine residency then a two year fellowship in geriatric medicine at the University of Chicago, where she was subsequently on the faculty. She has also served on the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Since 2015, Dr. Holmes has been practicing medicine at UTHealth Houston and has been a tenured professor with UTHealth McGovern Medical School. Prior to joining MCH, Dr. Holmes was the Joan and Stanford Alexander Chair in Gerontology.
Dr. Holmes has been a leader in geriatric programs for over 20 years. Most recently, she served as tenured professor, Division Director and Vice President of Community Engagement at UTHealth Houston. While her expertise includes a focus on clinical research, growing geriatrics programs, and optimizing health and wellness strategies for older people, she has chosen to step away from her academic responsibilities to focus on individual patient care.
Dr. Holmes is a Fellow in the American Geriatrics Society (AGSF) which is a status awarded by the American Geriatrics Society to members dedicated to geriatrics through education, clinical care, research, and professional development. Through her additional education and training, she has been closely involved in leading care for older patients. She participated in setting the curriculum for the Hospitalized Aging Medical Patient; she was a fellow at the Sealy Center on Aging, at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston 2011-2013; She received training from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) which introduces researchers to the data resource which links population-based cancer registry data with Medicare claims to study cancer care and outcomes in elderly populations.
Dr. Holmes involvement in professional organizations and committees include: The American Geriatrics Society “AGS” (including the Cancer and Aging Special Interest Group); The American Society of Clinical Oncology; and Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer “MASCC” (as the Geriatrics Study Group Co-Chair)
