Dr. Jordan Shapiro joins MCH April 2026.
Dr. Shapiro is a board-certified internist and gastroenterologist who believes that excellent gastrointestinal care requires both scientific rigor and deep respect for the patient’s lived experience. He began practicing in a trauma-informed manner because he has seen firsthand how patients with complex GI symptoms often feel dismissed, fragmented, or left without an advocate.
“My approach begins with listening. I take time to help patients tell their stories and to understand how symptoms fit into the broader context of their lives, health histories, and goals. From there, I partner with patients in shared decision-making, combining the best available evidence with thoughtful clinical judgment in areas where uncertainty and ambiguity are common.” says Dr. Shapiro.
Dr. Shapiro is particularly drawn to complex cases and conditions that fall between traditional silos of care, including disorders of gut–brain interaction such as irritable bowel syndrome, pelvic floor disorders, eating disorders, inflammatory bowel disease (i.e., Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), and the transition from pediatric to adult GI care. He also frequently cares for patients without clear diagnoses and those seeking second opinions, and has served as a consultant for national programs including the NIH Undiagnosed Diseases Network, as well as location programs such as the Baylor College of Medicine Long COVID Clinic and J Flowers Health Institute.
Dr. Shapiro relays “At the core of my work is the belief that patients heal best when they feel heard, respected, and informed. Trauma-informed care does not replace evidence-based medicine—it strengthens it by creating trust, clarity, and collaboration. I would love the opportunity to work with you!”
