Laboratory Assistant
The Laboratory Assistant is responsible for performing pre-analytical and certain post-analytical aspects of specimen testing. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Receiving samples into the clinical laboratory for testing and/or transport.
- Prepare samples for testing in the clinical laboratory.
- Communicating results to appropriate personnel as needed.
- Following established procedures for collecting and processing biological specimens, including plating of microbiological cultures.
- Understanding and communicating sample requirements.
- All other duties assigned by the Laboratory Manager and Supervisor.

- Ability to cope with stressful situations
- Capable of troubleshooting problem samples and tests
- Willingness to follow detailed instructions and adhere to established policies and procedures
- Skilled in operating various types of laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, autoclaves, and laboratory computer systems
- Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma/GED
- Must be proficient in reading, writing, speaking and understanding English
- Experience handling biohazardous materials and following established safety guidelines
- Experience with laboratory information systems [LIS]
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years previous experience working in a clinical laboratory environment
- Laboratory Assistant, Medical Assistant, and/or Phlebotomy certification
